My Jewish Discovery Place Docent Program
WHAT IS A DOCENT?
Docents act as roaming interpreters for MJDP, guiding, assisting, supervising and informing visitors about the museum and its exhibits. They contribute to the museum experience by creating a unique environment with their special talents and enthusiastic personalities during group visits and public hours.
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?
By participating in the docent program, an individual agrees to fulfill specific commitments to MJDP, such as completing the required training sessions and agreeing to work in the museum a minimum of one 2 hour shift every month.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
Fill out the docent application completely. We will work with your needs and try to make this an activity you can integrate into your lifestyle. Formal group training sessions occur every few months, however individuals may be trained by appointment as well. To find out about dates, times and availability, or to find answers to any questions, please call 954-792-6700 or e-mail hbehar@sorefjcc.org.
HOW CAN I EARN COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS?
My Jewish Discovery Place has many opportunities for Middle School and High School students to earn community service hours. We especially look for volunteers during the busy summer season to help out with our camp groups and at our special events during the year.
