Soref JCC Mourns the Passing of Dr. James Phillips |

All of us at the Soref JCC are sad to learn of the passing of Dr. James Phillips. Dr. Phillips and his wife Ava have been long-time leaders of the Soref JCC and esteemed members of our Jewish community. Dr. Phillips served as President of the Soref JCC from 1988 – 1990. He is the founder of Chabad of Plantation and a driving force in founding the David Posnack Hebrew Day School. Both Dr. Phillips and Ava were honored by the Soref JCC in 2017 with the Alvin Gross Jewish Community Service Award for their extraordinary contribution to our Jewish community. |
Soref JCC Awarded Security Grant |

The Soref JCC has been awarded a Federal Security Grant for $100,000. The funds will provide physical security enhancements at the Perlman Family Campus in Plantation including inspection and screening systems. The JCC is grateful to the State of Florida, Division of Emergency Management, that will serve as the pass-through for the Federal award. The JCC intends to move forward with the various projects in the very near future. |

The Annual Meeting will include the election and installation of Officers and Directors of the Soref JCC. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the place of the meeting will be announced closer to the June 1 date. It will either be a virtual meeting or it will take place in the Founders Room located in the Schmidt Administration Building on the Soref JCC's Perlman Family Campus. |
JCC Postpones Humanitarian of the Year Gala |

Due to concerns for public safety, the Soref JCC has canceled the Humanitarian of the Year Gala scheduled for March 22nd. At the same time, we are working to support the needs of the community we serve, and are poised to provide assistance in a variety of areas. In addition, we continue to actively monitor novel coronavirus updates from Broward County and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and will continue to respond based on the best advice of governments, public health authorities and medical professionals.

Soref JCC is partnering with NFL Alumni to raise funds for the Parkinson's Foundation and the JCC's Children's Scholarship Program at its 27th annual Love Fore the Kids Golf Classic. Golf will take place Thursday, Jan. 30th with a shotgun start at 10am. Wednesday, Jan. 29th at 8pm will host an NFL Pairing Party and Jazz Night poolside. On Friday, Jan. |
Pythian Youth Foundation donates $5,000 for Special Needs Kids |

Stuart Greenblatt, President of the Pythian Youth Foundation, today presented the Soref JCC with a check in the amount of $5,000. Stuart was joined by his wife Hope along with Norman and Susan Bergstein. Norman is Past President of PYF but remains very involved. PYF distributes checks to Special Needs Camps located throughout Florida, from the northern end of Florida down to Miami. PYF receives donations from its members, grantors and friends, so that it can distribute the funds for the purpose of providing a great summer experience to disadvantaged children who are mentally and physically challenged, as well as to those who have severe medical diseases. The Soref JCC applauds PYF for its tireless and generous efforts to help these children, as it has done for many past years.

At the Soref JCC's annual meeting last evening, Coral Springs Mayor Scott J. Brook was presented with the Samuel M. & Helene Soref Community Service Award for his extensive community work. Past prominent awardees include Honorable Ilene Lieberman, Mayor Judy Paul (Town of Davie), Honorable Robert Butterworth, Commissioner Byron Jaffe (City of Weston), and Honorable Howard Finkelstein (Broward County Public Defender). The annual meeting celebrated 42 years of community impact by the Soref JCC. |
