Soref JCC Partners with NSU Alvin Sherman Library

Soref JCC and NSU Alvin Sherman Library have entered into an exciting partnership to better serve our community.  Soref JCC will provide access to NSU's extensive online resources including  those from The Craig and Barbara Weiner Holocaust Reflection and Resource Center.  The new partnership will enable Soref JCC  to promote specific programs and events for its participants while also providing them ease of access  to NSU's fabulous Alvin Sherman Library.  Select scheduled programs can be viewed on the  Soref JCC's website homepage via the "Adult Classes" tab.

Soref JCC Mourns the Passing of Dr. James Phillips

All of us at the Soref JCC are sad to learn of the passing of Dr. James Phillips.  Dr. Phillips and his wife Ava have been long-time leaders of the Soref JCC and esteemed members of our Jewish community.  Dr. Phillips served as President of the Soref JCC from 1988 – 1990.  He is the founder of Chabad of Plantation and a driving force in founding the David Posnack Hebrew Day School.  Both Dr. Phillips and Ava were honored by the Soref JCC in 2017 with the Alvin Gross Jewish Community Service Award for their extraordinary contribution to our Jewish community.  

 
Publix Charities Supports the WECARE Food Pantry

Publix Charities awarded the Soref JCC's WECARE Food Pantry with a $5,000 grant.  We are appreciative of the long-standing support from Publix that enables us to help our neighbors in need.  Especially due to COVID-19, this grant will enable us to serve the large number of individuals in our community who are suffering from unemployment, salary reduction, and other negative impact from the pandemic.  Thank you Publix for being such a great corporate citizen within our community!

 
Soref JCC Awarded Security Grant

The Soref JCC has been awarded a Federal Security Grant for $100,000.  The funds will provide physical security enhancements at the Perlman Family Campus in Plantation including inspection and screening systems.  The JCC is grateful to the State of Florida, Division of Emergency Management, that will serve as the pass-through for the Federal award.  The JCC intends to move forward with the various projects in the very near future.

 
J Classroom Connection

While you work, you can feel comfortable that your child is in a safe, secure classroom environment.  Each student, grades K - 5, will connect remotely to their school teacher under the supervision of JCC staff.  The program begins August 19th so your child won't miss a day of school.  Registration and payment available online!

 
Soref JCC Annual Meeting on June 1, 2020 at 7pm

The Annual Meeting will include the election and installation of Officers and Directors of the Soref JCC.  Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the place of the meeting will be announced closer to the June 1 date.  It will either be a virtual meeting or it will take place in the Founders Room located in the Schmidt Administration Building on the Soref JCC's Perlman Family Campus.

 
JCC Postpones Humanitarian of the Year Gala

Due to concerns for public safety, the Soref JCC has canceled the Humanitarian of the Year Gala scheduled for March 22nd. At the same time, we are working to support the needs of the community we serve, and are poised to provide assistance in a variety of areas.  In addition, we continue to actively monitor novel coronavirus updates from Broward County and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and will continue to respond based on the best advice of governments, public health authorities and medical professionals.
