Soref JCC will hold its 2021 Charlotte Baker Memorial Jewish Book Month Series this fall. Susie Fishbein, famous for her "Kosher By Design" Cookbook Series, will feature a cooking demonstration on November 16th via ZOOM with some Chanukah favorites. Phyllis Taylor will discuss her book "Whispers & Wisdom of the Prison Lady" on December 9th via ZOOM. Her audiences are always yearning for more given her easy, engaged style and gift of humor. Both events can be attended via ZOOM or in-person with a cocktail party on November 16th and a luncheon on December 9th. |Soref JCC Honors Irv Rosenbaum and Jill Gallner|

At the Soref JCC's Annual Meeting held last evening, community service awards were presented to Dr. Irv Rosenbaum and Jill Gallner. Irv is a past president of the Soref JCC and Jill is the current Secretary of the Soref JCC. Both have vast records of community service and remain active in leadership roles at the Soref JCC. Lois Pittler and Jerome Riesterer received beautiful serving dishes as symbols of their tremendous volunteer service provided at the WECARE Food Pantry. Casio Vargas, a firefighter, received a plaque on behalf of Health Care professionals and First Responders who are deemed community heroes for their courageous and selfless efforts to protect all of us during the pandemic. The plaque is now hanging proudly in the lobby of the Soref JCC.
|Soref JCC Honors Marilyn & Michael Moskowitz|

Last evening the Soref JCC held its 25th annual presentation of the Humanitarian of the Year award. The event was held via ZOOM and honored Marilyn & Michael Moskowitz, long-time supporters of the Soref JCC and esteemed leaders throughout our broader community. Participants included Broward County Vice Mayor Michael Udine, Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony, Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook and a host of other dignitaries who joined in honoring this well deserved couple. Angelina Kennedy, an up and coming superstar, sang the National Anthem and inspired the audience with her magnificent performances of Hallelujah, My Fight Song, and Over the Rainbow. This event is the largest annual fundraiser for the Soref JCC and supports the WECARE Food Pantry and Children's Scholarship Program. Thank you to all of our sponsors and everyone else who participated in making this a very special and successful event.

Soref JCC and NSU Alvin Sherman Library have entered into an exciting partnership to better serve our community. Soref JCC will provide access to NSU's extensive online resources including those from The Craig and Barbara Weiner Holocaust Reflection and Resource Center. The new partnership will enable Soref JCC to promote specific programs and events for its participants while also providing them ease of access to NSU's fabulous Alvin Sherman Library. Select scheduled programs can be viewed on the Soref JCC's website homepage via the "Adult Classes" tab.

|Soref JCC Mourns the Passing of Dr. James Phillips|

All of us at the Soref JCC are sad to learn of the passing of Dr. James Phillips. Dr. Phillips and his wife Ava have been long-time leaders of the Soref JCC and esteemed members of our Jewish community. Dr. Phillips served as President of the Soref JCC from 1988 – 1990. He is the founder of Chabad of Plantation and a driving force in founding the David Posnack Hebrew Day School. Both Dr. Phillips and Ava were honored by the Soref JCC in 2017 with the Alvin Gross Jewish Community Service Award for their extraordinary contribution to our Jewish community.
