|Published Monday, August 1, 2016|
The Soref JCC received an $8,000 donation from the Knights of Pythias Pythian Youth Foundation (a division of the organization) for special needs children to attend summer camp at the JCC. The Knights were treated to lunch, entertainment from the Brodzki Early Childhood Center summer campers and Shabbat candle lighting.
Soref JCC Executive Director Donald Graw welcomed the Knights of Pythias with a speech about the importance of the Scholarship Programs for children of special needs. Vice President of the Pythian Youth Foundation, Bob Weiner, also spoke about giving back to the community, specifically the children. Also on hand were Knight of Pythias Former President Sir Jerry Kalinsky and Grand Secretary Alan Fogelman.
The Soref JCC has three campuses throughout Broward County, Plantation, Coral Springs and Coral Springs/Parkland.
The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal organization that was founded in 1864. The organization is known for its charitable works and is open to Jews and non-Jews alike. The Knights of Pythias also contribute their time and efforts to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, and Camp Fiesta– a camp for children with Cancer.
The Kings Point Lodge number 221 was chartered in November of 1994.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank The Knights of Pythias for their generosity and fundraising!
